My name is Heather and I live in Worcester, MA. In 2009, I graduated from Worcester State College (now University) with a BA in Communication and a concentration in marketing and public relations. In May 2012, I completed my Masters degree! I graduated from Suffolk University and got my MA in Integrated Marketing Communication. There are a lot of other things I would still like to accomplish, both academically and otherwise. I’m one of those people that just loves to learn, so I’m always asking questions and looking things up (thanks, Wikipedia!).
As of this writing, I am working as a full time sales & marketing assistant for a company called Caterer’s Warehouse. It’s a family-owned company that sells catering and restaurant supplies. We have customers all across the country and it’s my first “real” job after school. It’s a good fit right now, but I’m always open to the opportunity to get my feet wet and explore something new. I am friendly and outgoing; a quick learner who is able to think on her feet. I work equally well with others and on my own – I just need a place that will let me put my talents to good use!
I was born and raised in Worcester, MA (about an hour from Boston) and I am the oldest of three siblings. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to write, though the answer to “about what?” has continued to change and evolve over the years. At first, I didn’t care what I wrote about – I just wanted to write! As a result, in my English classes, I wrote short stories about alien abductions and about family members dying, as well as a kid being called upon to disarm a bomb before it destroys the school. Since I went to a Jewish day school (with dual Judaic/secular education), I also had to write stories and sentences in Hebrew. This was more of a challenge, but still, I wrote about purple elephants and monkeys jumping on the bed.
One day, my teacher asked us to write about our most vivid childhood memory, and that was when I discovered my real writing passion: wrestling. You read that right: I love professional wrestling. Or, did. Well, still do. Sort of. As I started writing about my experience seeing my favorite wrestler in person, a light bulb went on and I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
Lots of things have changed since then, but the one constant in my life has remained writing. No matter what it is, I like writing it. I can write everything from press releases to poetry to product copy and be happy as a clam while doing it. Though I have been told many times that I am a good writer, I believe that the majority of that “goodness” comes from the basic fact that I enjoy what I do.
This portfolio is designed to be a stand-alone version of my more traditional, hard-copy portfolio. Unlike my traditional portfolio, however, this version contains the complete versions of my writing samples, so you’re getting a much better look at what I do.
